Leather handbags and purses are coveted items that require a certain amount of care and upkeep for them to maintain their original look and appeal over time and continual use. Fortunately, it is quite easy to keep your fine leather bags looking just as good as the day you bought them.
The first thing you want to do is check the inside of the bag for any manufacturer’s tips for cleaning. If the bag does not provide instructions, the following steps are suggested.
Step 1: Gathering the items you need.
The basic items you need to clean a lightly soiled leather bag are everyday household items.
For this task, you need two soft clothes, distilled water, mild body soap, a small bowl, a dry towel and a leather-based leather protector or conditioner. Once you have gathered these items, you are ready to clean your handbag or purse.
Step 2: Cleaning a lightly soiled leather bag.
First, empty your purse of all its contents and shake it out to loosen up any debris that may be inside. Next, carefully take your dry, soft rag and wipe out the interior.
Mix a few drops of soap with the water until you have suds. Dip your rag into the cleaning solution and then wring the excess water out of the rag. With your damp rag, softly wipe down the leather exterior of the bag paying special attention to soiled spots or marks.
Take the dry cloth and wipe the bag dry; gently buff it to regain the leather’s luster. After you dry the bag, you can apply the leather protector according to the instructions provided from the manufacturer.
